I attended the 12 week Cross Training Budokon series led by Lynette in the first quarter of 2019. During this time I was training for the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon – the 56km Ultra. I was doing a lot of fairly long runs in training, including the STBB Red Hill Marathon in late January, and the Cango Marathon in February. I am a slow runner so long runs for me mean a lot of time out on the road doing repetitive movements on tar. I have also struggled with ITB pain inter past due to glute and hip weakness and imbalance. During this Budokon series I not only did all my running pain and injury free, I found that my strength, mobility and flexibility were vastly improved and the biggest difference I noticed was in my recovery time from marathon distance races… I just bounced back with no problems after every single run, including the 56km race! Each class was also a demanding and intense workout on its own and I simply loved the different movement challenge and the focused headspace that I found during the series.

The Ritual has motivated me to wake up an hour earlier each day—before my family rises—to take time for reflection, stretching, mindfulness and setting an intention before my busy day begins.
Life takes us through various phases, and confidence naturally fluctuates—especially after dedicating years to raising children and then stepping back into a new career at 50+. I realized that my self-doubt and negative self-talk were holding me back. However, starting this new year with The Ritual and the tools it provided has given me a renewed sense of confidence at this stage of my life.
While I still remind myself to apply these lessons daily, with time, it has become more natural. I now recognize the power of affirmations and positive self-talk appearing in all aspects of my life.
